The previous drive to have a stronger police presence on the streets in my opinion has backfired or a half hearted approach has been taken. It appears the majority of police have little training and / or little experience to carry out a role of being a true CRIME FIGHTER. Surely only physically fit applicants and those that can pass a rigorous training program should be considered suitable for the police force, no point having overweight and unfit police on the street. I see it everyday in Wimbledon where the teenagers congregate outside the tube station and are literally laughing, yelling abuse and being disrespectful at these unfit protectors of our society. How can the police be taken seriously when they are dressed up looking like a tourist attraction, with their bobby style hats, lumo overcoats and office-style shoes. Have you seen them posing for the cameras outside Hyde Park?? Can they really give chase and apprehend a mugger when the situation arises?? A great example can be found in one of the numerous Police programs on Television, typically trying to control the drunken crowds over the weekends - has anyone noticed how many police it takes to apprehend one or 2 drunken revellers ?? Does this display a Police force that is capable of winning back the streets and gaining confidence amongst the public?
Compare the image of the police forces around the rest of Europe and honestly tell me if our Police compare
